Day 3 in MIT Sloan Fellows Class 2023, DEI(Diversity, Equality and Inclusion)

Today is the last day of orientation.

We had 3 hours session of DEI, and this session was a true eye-opener.

We tried a lot of exercises to demonstrate how diverse and unique we are. Everyone has a different value, experience and ambition. The point of DEI is always to recognize these differences and admire these differences. This is a starting point.

To be an inclusive leaders, we need to equip ourselves with empathy, vision, and depth.

  1. Empathy: Ability to see gaps. Recognize unconscious and systematic inequality.
  2. Vision: Plan necessary changes against the current problems.
  3. Depth: Take action.

Some people questioned the overuse of diversity and some companies distorted their promotion and organizational structures because of diversity. However, we need to split them into "must-box" and "want-box". If any gender or age-based personality is in "must-box", that's discrimination.

This is the clearest definition, I have ever heard. Also, I learned the power of interactive class consisting of questions and answers.

By the way, I finally got the covid virus two years after escaping from the infection of this virus.
