Data Science, global business, management and MBA

Day 11 in MIT Sloan Fellows Class 2023, Learning from our cohort -1

This blog is not about lectures.

I am writing about some of our diverse and talented cohorts and will introduce their background and what inspired me.

Background

He is a serial entrepreneur from South America and his fifth startup(commerce) made significant growth under covid crisis.

He loves data and technology and devotes a lot of time to his family.

Empathetic leadership

We learned the cultural gap between different cultures.

Developing a global mindset is now a necessity | ONGOLO

To be honest, his impression is totally opposed to typical South American culture. He welcomes direct negative feedback but rarely gives direct negative ones to others. He does not afraid of conflict, but he always cares about team members.

Let me bring some example cases.

Every time, in discussions, he asked everyone to say something and their opinions.

" I need your opinion. Your opinion is really insightful. Please."

I know it is a simple word, but I probably cannot behave as he did if you have time constraints and some pressure.

Also, he always considers others' workload. He always looks for where he can contribute, even a tiny thing.

" If you feel it is hard, let me know. I will do that."

His greatness lies in the fact that he has such mental capacity and maturity yet has not lost any of his passion. His passion to change the industry and scale the business is extremendous.

Small gift

One day, he gave me a chubby. Actually, he gave his chubby to everyone around him during the class. To me, this small action shows how well he builds people, how free he is, and how large his vessel is.
